Super Mario Run – Great Game Or Cheap Copy?
Fans of the beloved video game Super Mario can be happy, because Super Mario Run will be released soon! One of the most popular games that Nintendo produced is coming to iOS devices. Before you are going to jump into the game and let the moustachioed plumber run through all worlds, we want to show you what you can expect with the release of Super Mario Run app.
Well-known game principle
The date that was announced during the iPhone keynote last September is coming closer and closer. On December 15 the highly-awaited Jump’n’Run game Super Mario Run is going to be released. It will be an iOS app and in addition it is the first smartphone game released by the Japanese video game producer Nintendo. There is almost no difference to the original game console in terms of game principle. It is still about running and jumping with Mario through many levels and collecting coins until he securely reaches the finish. The difference is the control though. You are no longer using the buttons of a game console, but you tap on the screen to let him jump. So you will no longer need two hands to play Super Mario.
What’s new though?
What makes the real difference to the original though? As the name somehow gives it away, the navigation of the jumping plumber is different. Mario is automatically running in one direction inside the level – to the right. The only thing you have to do is to bring him to the finish with as many coins as possible. While doing so, you still have to overcome or flatten out obstacles like flesh-eating plants, feisty mushrooms and flying turtles. Some of these should sound familiar to you.
However, Nintendo seems to give us more than an “endless runner“ with Super Mario Run, because Mario got some new moves as well. The plumber can now pull himself up on edges or he jumps automatically over enemies and smaller obstacles. By using the acceleration bar Mario can jump even higher than ever before. Stop signs help to make him run at the right moment, e.g. when you are in front of a bigger obstacle. Another feature is the collecting of special coins. If you collect a certain amount of special coins, a level can change completely and be extended. Therefore players have the possibility to influence the content of the level by their gaming skill.
Nintendo remained true to itself in terms of the themed world and enemies. The design of the worlds is still like the old games. Besides the classic upper and lower castles, you will find the ghost house and the sky world. Items and enemies are also mostly the same.
Additional game modes
There are two other exciting game modes besides the main one. “Toad Rally” is a multi-player mode, in which you fight against other players around the world. It is about making very tricky jumps to collect as many coins as possible. In the battle you also have to win the sympathy of the Toads. This way more Toads will join your kingdom, what leads to the third game mode. In the kingdom mode, you can build an individual kingdom by using the collected coins and the Toads that you have won.
Nintendo could affect another great hype with Super Mario Run like Niantic did with Pokémon Go. Thanks to the very similar style to the original game and the very good implementation for smartphones or iPhones/iPads, Nintendo could land the next hit game this year and could fascinate more than just Mario fans, who wants to use the app in the whole extent with the 24 levels, has to invest $10 though. In contrast to other free-to-play titles has this one no further costs after purchasing the extension. The free trial unfortunately has only 3 levels, which is just enough to get a good picture of the game. We can totally recommend Super Mario Run and see the price as very fair, because of the game quality and the fun factor.
By the way, if you cannot wait to play the game, you can go to the next Apple Store and play the game there. It is available in all Apple Stores worldwide. On December 15 you can finally download it from the App Store to your iPhone or iPad.
