Dragon Hills: Free iOS App of the Week
What a blast! Apple’s free app of the week is a game called “Dragon Hills” and players familiar with Alto’s Adventure might be familiar with the endless runner concept that is employed in this game. There is a significant difference in the game mechanic, though. Dragon Hills allows you to completely destroy the environment with a much larger degree of interactivity, as you can burrow into the ground while riding your dragon and shoot out with breakneck speeds on the other side of the tunnel. Your dragon is able to employ his fiery breath and burn down buildings or trees to make room for your speedy ride. Watch out for hot lava though, as contact with the hot stuff will quickly bring up the “game over!” screen.

The game is very well made and has received an average of 5 stars in App Store reviews for the current version of the game. A recent update gave players access to new content, such as two dragons and a pirate-themed level including new foes and obstacles. Cezary Rajkowski, the developer, appears to be involved with the community and actively working on the popular project. The game is suitable for all ages and only contains mild cartoon violence.

The app is universally usable, thus works on both the iPhone and the iPad. Not only the gameplay is of convincing quality, we enjoyed the cartoony artwork and the attention to detail as well as the original art style and sound design. It comes with Game Center support for achievements and leaderboards. The cherry on top is the complete lack of annoying in-app purchases and ads. Give it a go!
