Order on time
Ordering your iPhone gift in November or during the first week of December is the best way to assure that it will reach its destination on time. The earlier, the better. Most stores tend to raise their prices in the final phase before Christmas Eve, thus it has proven to be the best strategy to take advantage of the best deals beforehand.
There are a number of retailers offering deals on the iPhone, you are not strictly limited to buying your iPhone gift at directly at Apple. Interestingly enough, many retailers offer better prices than Apple, even a short period after the launch can work wonders to motivate all sorts of shops to discount their products. Or offer a nice bundle with accessories that have been reduced in price.
iPhone prices when buying directly from Apple
The current prices when buying an iPhone 6s directly from Apple start at $649 for the smallest version with 16 GB of storage. If you want 64 GB of storage (recommended), Apple will charge $749 and last but not least, the royal 128 GB come in at $849.
The larger iPhone 6s Plus with the 5.5 inch screen comes in at $749 for the smallest version with 16 GB of internal storage, $849 for 64 GB and $949 for the largest option with a whopping 128 GB of space.

You can get the iPhone 6s with 16 GB of storage factory unlocked for $708 at Amazon. The larger 64 GB version is available for $824 and up, depending on the color. And the largest 128 GB version is available from $869 if you opt to take the gray version.
There is also the option of purchasing a used device or a refurbished iPhone from eBay. You can either take part in an auction, or buy one right away.

Please make sure to purchase a factory unlocked device when aiming to use the iPhone with any type of network. Devices that are bound to certain cell networks are cheaper, albeit more restrictive in terms of usage.
