How to Use Apple Wallet (Passbook): Adding Cards
Adding rewards or membership cards to Apple Wallet makes their usage much more comfortable. You can use Apple Wallet to store anything from cinema tickets to your Starbucks card. Credit, debit and store cards can be stored alongside flight tickets or coupons. The advantage to this approach is not only speed, but you won’t have to carry the actual cards around in your wallet. This is a tutorial on how to add any card to Apple Wallet – and how to use Apple Wallet.
Prerequisites: This guide requires iOS 9.0 and above. If you are using an older version of iOS, you will be lacking the “Apple Wallet” app to follow along with. You might have the “Passbook” app, but the two apps are quite different in their functionality.
How to add a card to Apple Wallet
There are three main methods of adding cards to Apple Wallet. We will briefly discuss each of them in the following sections. Some are preferable depending on the situation.
Adding cards from within supported Apps
New and intuitive is the method of adding a card to Apple Wallet via a supported app. You can either look for the list of supported Apps in the App Store (Check out all Passbook / Apple Wallet apps in the iTunes App Store) or check out the most recent list by going to your Apple Wallet app and tapping the plus sign button to add a new card. We will demonstrate the method using the “Starbucks” app.
Open your supported app and look for a button titled “Add to Wallet (Passbook)”. This will add your membership or rewards card to Apple Wallet. The location of this button may vary depending on the app you are using. The “Starbucks” app has it in the “PAY” section, you reveal it by tapping the “Manage” button at the bottom.
Adding cards to Apple Wallet via email attachments
Another way would be to open an email attachment or a website download using the “Apple Wallet” app. Say you receive a bunch of cinema tickets and would like to add them to your Apple Wallet.
Simply open up the “Mail” app and head over to the respective message, then tap the attachment and you will be taken to the “Apple Wallet” app. Inside the app, simply tap “add” at the top right to add the entry as a card.
Scanning a QR code or Barcode
Last but not least, supported cards can also be scanned via their QR codes or barcodes. Open up your “Apple Wallet” app and tap “Scan Code to Add a Pass”. Then use your iPhone’s camera to scan the code on the card, voucher or coupon. Then confirm adding the card and you’re done.
