Apple TV 4 Jailbreak: Download for tvOS 9.0 & 9.0.1 released
Chinese iOS hacking crew Pangu has released a pleasant surprise for the easter holidays: The Apple TV 4 jailbreak has arrived, along with a download for the jailbreak tool that supports tvOS 9.0 and tvOS 9.0.1 alike. Jailbreaking your Apple TV 4 has few benefits for regular users at the moment, as it is mainly aimed at developers. As soon as the devs build a platform for the rest of the users to stand on, you’ll be able to install tweaks and unsigned packages, quite possibly a full version of Kodi too.
The last Apple TV device that was jailbreakable was the Apple TV 2, now Team Pangu has released a jailbreak solution for the latest model, the Apple TV 4. It works on tvOS 9.0 to 9.0.1 and is relatively easy to install. Newer versions of tvOS are not supported and as of now, no downgrade method is known to get you back to one of these versions. Take care when checking out an update, as it might spoil your chances.
Apple TV 4 Jailbreak for developers
The jailbreak tool can now be downloaded in version 1.0 from Pangu’s official website. You will also need an Apple TV 4 with the right tvOS installed, as well as a USB type-C cable and a Mac, because Xcode is another requirement. Pangu states that it is required to use a paid developer account for the installation. The jailbreak is mainly aimed at giving devs the access they need via SSH so that more apps and the first themes, tweaks and so on can be built.
It is currently unknown if and when an Apple TV 4 jailbreak for tvOS 9.2 will be released. We’ll let you know as soon as this happens. In the meantime, enjoy the premise of having new features on your Apple TV 4 in the near future!
