How To Enable Facebook Messenger Dark Mode

From now on Facebook Messenger offers a feature that not only protects your eyes but also saves battery life on your iPhone. The so called “dark mode” is now available in Facebook’s own chat app. In the following we will show you how to enable and use the new Facebook Messenger Dark Mode.

How to enable Dark Mode in Facebook Messenger

To use the Facebook Messenger Dark Mode, you must first make sure that you are using the latest version of the Messenger app. To do this, go to the App Store app, choose “Updates” and tap on the “Update”-button to the right of Facebook Messenger.

After that you can unlock Dark Mode. Open the Messenger app on your iPhone and go to any chat. Tap on the emoji symbol in the text input field, select the crescent moon emoji and send it.

This will make countless crescent moon smileys to appear on the screen, accompanied by a query to enable the dark mode option in the app’s settings.

You can tap on your profile picture in the upper left corner as well to get to the settings section. There you’ll find “Dark mode” right at the top. Enable it by tapping on the button to the right. The background will then change from white to black while at same time the colour of the text will switch from black to white.

This function is particularly useful if you want to chat in bed in the evening or in dark surroundings, for example. Not only your eyes are spared. You can also save a lot of battery power, because dark screen areas use less energy.

Tipp: To protect your eyes, you can also activate the handy Night Shift function on your iPhone.
