Block a number using the “Recents” list
Making sure that your last contact with an unwanted number is truly the last (for now) is as simple as telling your iPhone to “Block this Caller”.
Here’s how to do it quickly and easily:
While inside the Phone app, simply open up the “Recents” tab by tapping it at the bottom of your screen. This will present you with a list of your recent calls. Select the caller you would like to block on your iPhone by tapping on the blue “i” icon next to the corresponding number or name. Scroll all the way to the bottom. Tap “Block this Caller”. To undo, simply tap “Unblock this Caller” while in the same menu location.
Block a contact via iMessage/Block iMessage origin
While inside the Messages app, simply tap the relevant conversation. Hit “Details” at the top right of your screen to bring up the contact detail menu. View further options by tapping on the blue “i” icon next to the corresponding number or name, then scroll to the bottom. Tap “Block this Caller”. To undo, simply tap “Unblock this Caller” while in the same menu location. This also works for FaceTime, by the way.
List of blocked numbers on iPhone & maintaining the list
If you would like to view a list of all the contacts are currently blocking with your iPhone, this guide is for you. Furthermore, you can manage your block list from this overview. Simply open up the “Settings” app, then continue over to the “Phone” section. Tap “Blocked” to see a list of blocked numbers and/or contacts on your phone. You can remove entries by tapping the “Edit” button or add more by tapping “Add New…” at the bottom of the list. Note that you need to add a new number to your contacts beforehand, otherwise it won’t appear as an option.
Block unknown callers on iPhone
Current status: not possible.
Blocking callers with no id or callers with a lack of id transmission is unfortunately a feature that hasn’t been implemented by Apple yet – although requested by the user community. There is hope though. Your cell carrier might have an option for blocking unidentified callers. Check with your provider for further details on whether this is a service they can enable for you.
