How to Clear Safari History on Your iPhone

Private matters should stay private, this goes for your iPhone too. Your browser history contains plenty of items that should not be handled openly, thus it makes sense to know how to delete history on iPhone, especially with respect to the safari browser. Should your device fall into the wrong hands, attackers might be able to use the information against you. Deleting your browser history on iPhone gives you also the advantage of a little more storage space. While it does not take much data to store a couple of web addresses, what really makes a difference is that by clearing your history globally, you will also clear so-called “Website Data”. This includes cached images and other items that may be clogging up your device’s storage.

Delete Safari history

There are two ways to get rid of the browser history on your iPhone. One is to delete the entire web history at once and clear all of your visited webpages. This is quite radical, but also very effective. Another method entails the deletion of single history items and is more targeted.

Delete entire history on iPhone

Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data

To delete your entire browsing history on iPhone, go to the “Settings” app. Next, select “Safari” from the list of options (you might have to scroll a bit to see the entry) and scroll down again inside the menu. Then tap the button labeled “Clear History and Website Data”.

This will delete everything at once. You might have to log back into some websites afterwards, as cookies storing your user sessions are cleared as well. So keep your login credentials handy, if applicable. Same goes for saved versions of your search requests.

Deleting individual entries from your browser history

Safari > History

Safari on iPhone now also supports deleting individual items from your history, which comes in handy when you are shopping for christmas gifts and the like.

To take this more targeted approach, open up your “Safari” app to begin. Tap the “Bookmarks” button at the bottom toolbar, which is located second to last in the row. Then tap “History” in the first of the tabs to located your browser history. Swipe left any of the items you with to clear and tap “Delete” to confirm.

Another, slightly modified option is to clear your browser history based on time. Instead of swiping left on your history item, tap the “Clear” button located at the bottom of the history list. Then select an appropriate timeframe from which you want to clear your internet activity.
